Video Tip #3 – How To Master Pelvic Movement

Mastering Pilates can be frustrating — and also rewarding. Sometimes, I think Pilates is a bit like golf – how can something that seems so simple be so challenging?

Have you ever tried a new exercise that you just couldn’t “get”. You may think that it’s because you’re not strong enough, not flexible enough…or maybe even not smart enough!

And certainly these things are all part of mastering the art of Pilates (except for that last part about not being smart enough – Pilates is movement, and we are naturally wired to move). But ultimately, learning a new Pilates exercise comes down to having all the right ingredients together so that you’re really ready for it.

Would you jump into a pool if you didn’t know how to swim? Of course you wouldn’t…until you learned to swim well enough to save yourself from drowning. Well, Pilates is no different. There’s a reason why we start with the fundamentals and work into intermediate and then advanced exercises.

If you master the fundamentals, you’ll have a good foundation to build from as you progress your practice…

…but if you neglect to build a strong foundation, mastering those intermediate and advanced moves will be a struggle. In fact, you’ll impeded your progress if you start your Pilates without truly understanding and embodying the building blocks of the practice. The bottom line? Spend your time on the basics. Practice them correctly — and practice them often.

Here’s a video explaining the nuts and bolts behind pelvic mobility:
